Me

My hope in writing My Life as a Bald Soprano is to take its viewers on a theatrical journey that is entertaining yet profound, inviting them to reflect upon their own experiences with self acceptance.

Even in its earliest workshops, the musical and its protagonist MARGARET seemed to have a strong appeal to a wide range of ages (from young children on up).  On many occasions, I was approached by audience members who said that they could relate to the main character.  Somehow MARGARET’s journey in My Life as a Bald Soprano had caused them to reflect upon their own experiences of trying to fit in as a child; whether they were victimized by bullying or acting as the bullies themselves.

After seeing an excerpt we performed for a New York City festival, a woman gave me a hug while thanking me for sharing an experience that was similar to her fathers.  He had been battling questions of self doubt for years after an experience with Alopecia had threatened his masculinity.  In another instance, a man traveled from Northern Massachusetts to attend one of our New York City Showcases remarking that Margaret’s struggles were similar to his own experience with obesity.  These are just two examples in which the show has touched the lives of its viewers.  My Life as a Bald Soprano has also gained attention from the media; with scenes being featured on Canada’s Global Network proving that the show has a universal message with mass appeal.

My main purpose in writing this show is to share my story through an entertaining medium that will inspire audiences of all ages by showing that life’s greatest gifts come from within.  With its omnipresent message, My Life as a Bald Soprano exudes the kind of provocative honesty that makes for good theatre; reminding us that while our differences can set us apart they actually bring us closer together.

School & Community “ Bully” Program

(PLAY) Performance-A group of NYC actors travels to schools performing scenes from Margaret's musical play, My Life as a Bald Soprano. Concluding the performance, Margaret and the cast talk with students about what they've seen and how it relates to their own experience.

(PRESENTATION) Public speaking-Margaret shares her story in a motivational speech, which focuses on turning poison into medicine.  This targeted talk is meant to encourage victims of bullying to "speak up"so they do not have to resort to violence or inflict self-harm.

A smile can be misleading...

especially when it's MASKING a child's suffering

MISSION STATEMENT

Think back to when you were in school.  Who was that lonely child desperately longing to "fit in" only to be shunned from her peers because she was "different"? Did you reach out to her? Wish you had? After years of being teased as a child, I am well aware of the impact that bullying can have on a child's self-esteem and overall quality of life.

My Life as a Bald Soprano provides an entertaining theatrical experience while sending the poignant message that we all have the power to overcome adversity without resorting to revenge or inflicting self-harm.  My hope is that this project will bring awareness to America’s bullying epidemic.

SOBERING STATISTICS

* One in four children is bullied at some point during their schooling.

*Playground statistics show that every seven minutes a child is bullied

  (Adult intervention-4%, Peer intervention-11%,No intervention-85%)

*Teenagers say revenge is the strongest motivation for school shootings; 86% [of those surveyed] said other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them causes teenagers to turn to lethal violence in schools.
